Jiobit founder and CEO, John Renaldi, lost track of his 6-year-old son in a crowded Chicago park for over 30 minutes. This terrifying experience initiated a search for a wearable tracking solution to prevent it from happening again. His search turned up subpar products that were bulky and poorly designed with terrible battery life and tracking limitations.
As a former Motorola executive, John knew that more was possible. In 2015 he assembled a team of experienced hardware and software engineers to design a location tracking solution that would be suitable for his kids.
The company’s first product is Jiobit, the world’s smallest and longest lasting location monitor for kids. It pairs with Jiobit Guardian App to deliver real time notifications about a child’s location – no matter where they are. It’s tiny and lightweight, lasts up to 7 days on a single charge under normal use, and tracks in every location, even indoors. Jiobit was designed with child safety in mind, however, there is no doubt that this technology is a valuable tool for all members of the family including pets and aging elderly.
Jiobit is the world’s smallest and longest-lasting real-time location tracking platform. Founded in 2015, Jiobit shipped it's first product, "The Jiobit Smart Tag," in 2018 as a location monitor for kids. Jiobit quickly expanded into other consumer segments including pets and adult safety, as well as the government and B2B spaces. With innovations and patents in hardware, cyber security, network operations, and consumer software, Jiobit has become one of the premier hardware-enabled SaaS companies in the U.S.
Jiobit’s patented tracking technology is built by industry veterans from Motorola with a history of building innovative consumer products. Backed by investors and advisors from Facebook, Uber, Google, and the Chief Scientist from Symantec, Jiobit is headquartered in Chicago, with team members across the U.S. and a development center in Silicon Valley.
Jiobit is the first-of-its-kind patented location tracking platform, enabling the longest-lasting and smallest real-time location products with best-in-class security.
Using patented Progressive Beaconing technology, the Jiobit location tracker stays connected indoors and out, even when there's no bluetooth connection.
Jiobit is waterproof, durable, discreet, and provides accurate real-time tracking at any distance. Featuring a host of encryption and security technologies, Jiobit is trusted by federal government customers, law enforcement professionals, and thousands of caregivers and families with usage in every populated continent in the world.
Jiobit is designed with kids in mind. It is small enough to hide under clothes and not be distracting, noticed, or triggering of sensory disorders. We’ve also designed multiple attachments for a variety of wearing options including a secure lock that a child cannot remove.
Jiobit is about the size of an Oreo cookie, and weighs less than four quarter coins. This makes it nearly un-noticeable for kids with sensory issues, and makes it the perfect tracker for smaller pets, like cats.
Jiobit’s battery learns and adapts as it follows patterns and location history. The more Trusted Places and Care Team members the Jiobit interacts with, the longer it lasts. Under typical use, the Jiobit can last a full week between charges.
Jiobit’s unmatched security and privacy practices pass the test for even the most stringent helicopter parents--not to mention the US Military and world-class data security professionals.
Jiobit’s COPPA compliant cloud platform manages the device, protecting and encrypting sensitive data using a tamper-resistant security chip.
Jiobit’s unique combination of radios (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, dedicated cellular, and GPS) ensures consistent connection and the ability to track everywhere--even indoors--from anywhere. There are no distance limits.
It's not enough to just have the ability to see current location. By using geofencing and Wi-Fi network signal strength, Jiobit can alert users when the device has arrived at or left a trusted place.
Peace of mind also means knowing who your child is with. Users can invite trusted caregivers to see location information and the ability to track.
Jiobit Smart Tag is built on an all-new, 5G-compatible, low-power network that's faster and more available in rural and previously low-coverage and dead-zone areas.
Jiobit's patented Progressive Beaconing technology uses a combination GPS, Cellular, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth to ensure the device is always connected.

This allows the device to still be tracked when outside of Wi-Fi or Bluetooth mesh networks."
Read article at Techcrunch.com"Fast forward to today, and Jiobit is launching the second generation of its device—the Jiobit Next. The device looks about the same on the outside, but is vastly more powerful on the inside. Most notably, Jiobit Next provides users coverage in more geographies, especially in rural areas and “dead” zones. “What we learned from Gen 1 was all the influence for Gen 2,” Renaldi said. “A lot of it was around the ways in which we use wireless networks.”Jiobit’s patented progressive beacon technology uses a combination of GPS, cellular networks, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to keep trackers connected, which means there are no distance limits."

From the Parent menu, you can add members to the care team or change the map view from streets to satellites. It’s incredibly simple to add to or delete from the list of trusted places in the app."
Read article at Wired.com"You can clip the small, lightweight Jiobit tracker onto a pocket, jacket or another article of clothing to consistently track your child's whereabouts. It measures just 1.96 x 1.45 x 0.47 inches and weighs 0.8 ounces. The tracker runs on Wi-Fi, cellular, GPS and Bluetooth, requires a Jiobit subscription."
Read article at Newsweek.com"Unlike most trackers, Jiobit's hybrid tracking works both as a traditional GPS and as a Bluetooth tether. It works with a well-designed Android or iOS app that shows where your child is and who they're with, if they're with an approved caregiver who's running the Jiobit app. The Jiobit's owner can invite other app users to be caretakers of a Jiobit. Once they're attached to an account, their phones will automatically connect to the Jiobit when it's in range (if they have Bluetooth on)."
Read article at PCMag.com"It employs machine learning to understand a kid’s normal daily routes and routines, so users don’t have to set up “rules” and maps to get started. (Although they still can manually do that.) It also gives parents summaries about the child’s daily activities. Because kids’ privacy is of special concern, the company’s app and device encrypt all data in transmission. (The device and app are COPPA compliant, the startup says.)"
Read article at Techcrunch.com"The sugar-packet sized tracker slips into a pocket, clips onto a waistband or shoelace, pairs with an app on your smartphone and can track your kids in real time. It uses “progressive beaconing,” which is a combination of Wi-Fi, cell networks, GPS and Bluetooth. It’s water-proof and discrete, with the idea that your youngster will forget they’re even wearing it. Meanwhile, the tiny gadget delivers real-time location info for a full week on a single charge."

Read article at Buzzfeed.com"Parents can use the Jiobit smartphone app to set up safe areas for their kids – like the pool where they take lessons, their friends’ and grandparents’ houses, school and Mom’s office. If a kid strays from those areas, the Jiobit app will alert the parent and help them pinpoint the child’s location. Its also beta testing a feature that will allow parents to zero in on their kids’ location indoors, knowing which floor their kid is on within an airport, mall or museum, for example."
Read article at CNBC.com"It's an incredibly small and lightweight tracking device that can be worn on a child's belt loop, shoelace, or even hidden inside of a shirt. It syncs to an adult's phone so that they can track their kid anywhere — no distance limits!"
Read article at Popsugar.com"With no screen, microphone or speaker, the Jiobit feels very durable. It's shock-resistant and waterproof with an IPX8 rating — I doubt my 6-year-old could destroy it without a dedicated, sustained effort. We threw it on the ground, stepped on it and left it on the driveway during a rain shower, and it kept working just fine."
Read article at Tomsguide.com"The Jiobit works by gathering GPS information and periodically sending that to the internet over a cellular connection. That periodic connection means the device will work for about a week on a charge. Jiobit is water-resistant and built to withstand mud, spilled milk and the occasional wrestling match. It can be attached to pets as well."
Read article at CNET.com"Jiobit’s solution, in essence, is to combine hardware tailor-made for tiny devices with cloud-based machine learning. The company’s in-house solution crams a processor, sensors, and a bevy of radios — cellular, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS, to name a few — into a compact motherboard that’s 'smaller than any comparable [hardware] on the market,' said Renaldi."
Read article at Digitaltrends.com"This tiny gadget makes a lot of sense for parents traveling with their kids. About the size of two quarters, once clipped onto a child's clothes it provides accurate, real-time tracking at any distance (it can switch from WIFI to Bluetooth to cellular); works through walls such as in hotels; and is water proof for effectiveness at the beach or pool."
